Sam Raimi In Talks To Direct DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS

Yesterday evening, the folks at Variety dropped quite the bombshell. 

According to their report, Sam Raimi - who hasn't helmed a feature film since 2013's Oz the Great and Powerful - is in talks to direct Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. the already-dated-for-2021 sequel to 2016's Doctor Strange. You'll recall that original director Scott Derrickson recently walked away from that project (citing the dreaded "creative differences"), and it appears Kevin Feige and company were quick to fill that hole in their schedule. 

Sam Raimi probably needs no further introduction to the BMD readership, but let's go ahead and list this dude's list of accomplishments, anyway: Raimi's the guy who gave us the Evil Dead franchise, the madman behind A Simple Plan and Drag Me to Hell, and - last, but certainly not least - the guy who directed Sony's first three Spider-Man movies. Y'know, the Tobey Maguire ones. In other words: on paper, Raimi should be able to do this movie in his sleep.

Are we excited? Of course we're excited! Are we, ah, curious how Raimi will fare working within the highly-regimented Marvel Studio system? Oh yes. One way or another, the results here are bound to be interesting, and we're very interested to see how it all shakes out.
