PARASITE Cleaned Up At The Oscars Last Night

Bong Joon-ho's latest brought home four statues. How'd everyone else do?

Well that was an interesting Oscars ceremony, wasn't it?

Many of us were under the assumption that Sam Mendes' 1917 would sweep last night, steamrolling over Bong Joon-ho's Parasite and Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood just as the soothsayers and prognosticators had foretold. The first sign that things wouldn't be going according to plan arrived when Bong and Han Jin Won scored a victory in the Best Original Screenplay category. From there, the Bong wave only grew, eventually taking down Best International Feature, Best Director, and - in a shocking victory that even Bong's most ardent supporters could not have predicted following that Best International Feature win - Best Picture. What an incredible outcome.

Elsewhere, things went about as expected: Joaquin Phoenix took home a trophy for his work in Joker, Laura Dern and Brad Pitt scored Best Supporting trophies, and Renée Zellweger snagged a Best Actress Oscar for Judy.
