We Dare You To Watch The CANDYMAN Trailer Five Times

After several days of teasing - including a great new poster - the trailer for Jordan Peele and Nia DaCosta's new Candyman film is here. We know you've been waiting for this, so we won't mess about too much. Return to the Cabrini Green projects - newly-gentrified, still filled with bees - below:

Looks good! The use of Destiny's Child's "Say My Name" seems a touch obvious, but the way it's mixed works well, so I'll allow it. Though we don't really see him in the trailer (only his invisible-man impact), Tony Todd's voice has grown gravellier with age, which could play well in the film. The overall production just looks slick as hell, too, with what appear to be a number of striking horror sequences, and the "tortured artist" angle on the new protagonist could play really well against the title character.

And that cast! Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Colman Domingo, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Teyonah Parris have all seen their talents rocket to prominence in the last few years, and their presence here lends this sequel/reboot considerable credibility. So does the involvement of Jordan Peele as producer and co-writer. I haven't seen director Nia DaCosta's debut Little Woods, but its release (by our friends at NEON) brought serious critical admiration, so we're excited to see what she brings to this project. All of this positions Candyman well, given its predecessor's status as one of the great pieces of social commentary in the horror genre. As far as franchise revivals go, you couldn't get a much better pairing of talent and project than this.

Candyman releases June 12th, smack in the middle of summer. Universal's confident about this one.
