PENINSULA, Yeon Sang-ho’s TRAIN TO BUSAN Follow-Up Gets A Poster

Before Parasite, I feel like the South Korean film people talked about most was Train to Busan. The zombie film about a group of strangers trying to survive a zombie outbreak while traveling on a train got a lot of folks excited, and introduced many to the greatness of Ma Dong-Seok. Director Yeon Sang-ho capitalized upon that success with an animated prequel called Seoul Station that was probably for children, but now he’s back with a feature film for grown ups:

Peninsula isn’t exactly a sequel to Train to Busan if only because it doesn’t feature any characters from that film. Instead it merely takes place in the same world, four years later. One assumes there are more zombies. But if there are also humans, perhaps some form of society has survived as well.

This poster is from Empire, and they also have a synopsis: “The Korean peninsula is devastated and Jung-seok, a former soldier who has managed to escape overseas, is given a mission to go back and unexpectedly meets up with survivors.”

So really, the excitement here is another zombie film from the same director who made Train to Busan such a success. Zombies-aside, it sounds like a very different film, however. We’ll have a better idea of what to expect when the trailer eventually hits. The film comes out in Korea this summer.
