Steven Soderbergh Has Been More Productive In Quarantine Than Anyone Else

When quarantine hit, many creatives - including Team BMD, if you're forgiving enough to call us that - told themselves: "Finally, I will have the spare time I need to finish that project I've been working on!" Evan got to work finishing up BOSCH and wrote a whole season's worth of recaps, which rolled out during BMD's return week. Our own Britt Hayes launched a Patreon and her very own podcast, BAKED. I got down to business with Eric Vespe and finally started recording episodes of THE KINGCAST. We were all feeling pretty accomplished! Then we heard what Steven Soderbergh's been up to, and realized that our productivity levels are an absolute joke. Soderbergh is a one-man army.

The news comes to us from Soderbergh's recent appearance on THE NIGHTCAP LIVE, an interactive live show broadcast via Flaviar. Asked what he's been up to during lockdown, Soderbergh rattles off a number of accomplishments, including:

• Wrote an original screenplay
• Wrote a screenplay based on a novel he likes
• Wrote a SEX, LIES & VIDEOTAPE sequel (!!!)

In addition to knocking out screenplays at a truly alarming rate, Soderbergh used his appearance on THE NIGHTCAP LIVE to drop a few more interesting updates. For starters, KILL SWITCH - the film Soderbergh was two weeks away from filming with Don Cheadle, Jon Hamm, George Clooney and a who's who of other actors you like - is still going to happen, they're just waiting to see how everything shakes out on the COVID-19 front. For another, Soderbergh says he's seen the highly-anticipated BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC (which he produced!), and calls it the "perfect movie for people who wanna feel better about what’s happening right now". Curiously, the hardest-working man in showbusiness did not seem to rule out a possible streaming release for that film. We'll see what happens there.

Anyway, let's all take a moment today to appreciate the work ethic of Steven Andrew Soderbergh, and to perhaps be inspired by his boundless ambitions. We salute you, sir.
