RED ALERT: Brian De Palma. Christina Hendricks. Crime Thriller.

The master returns to feature filmmaking, and he’s bringing the MAD MEN star and Nicolaj Coster-Waldau with him.

If you watched Jake Paltrow and Noah Baumbach's excellent documentary De Palma last year, you saw it end with its title subject slowly ambling down the street - away from the camera crew, away from us. If you’re a fan of Brian De Palma and his work, maybe you felt a pang of sadness at that image, and wondered if he’d ever get behind the camera again. Because the doc sure had a somber feeling of finality to it that hit this writer pretty hard.

Maybe that’s why today’s news has us kind of giddy: Brian De Palma will direct Nicolaj Coster-Waldau and Christina Hendricks in his upcoming film Domino.

Here’s what THR has to say about the project:

Petter Skavlan (Kon-Tiki, Sophie's World) wrote the script for the film. The story follows a Copenhagen police officer (Coster-Waldau) who is seeking justice for his partner's murder by a mysterious man called Imran. He teams up with a fellow cop and his late partner's mistress (Hendricks), to hunt Imran down, but are unwittingly caught in a cat and mouse chase with a duplicitous CIA agent that will take them from Scandinavia to the sun-drenched landscapes of Spain.

De Palma directing a globe-trotting cop thriller with Christina Hendricks as half of a buddy* cop team? Yes, please. This also ostensibly continues Coster-Waldau’s string of stylish crime dramas, with the Game of Thrones star most recently appearing in Evan Katz’ Small Crimes on Netflix.

Domino will be shopped to buyers at Cannes this month. The French love them some De Palma, so nothin' but net on that sale.

De Palma’s last released film was 2012’s Passion. That movie didn’t light the world on fire, but it still showed some of the master's spark, and Christina Hendricks is amazing and pessimism is boring so I am here for this. Not gonna lie, it will be DAMN interesting** to see what 2018 moviegoers make of the aging auteur's male gaze, but we'll get through it together, kids.

*Probably sexual buddies. It's De Palma.

**I'm lying. The hot takes this will spawn are already tepid as fuck. Sorry, gang.
