Vin Diesel May Headline Sony’s BLOODSHOT

Meanwhile The Rock laughs and rolls his eyes.

Sony is trying to get a Marvel-style shared universe off the ground using Valiant Comic titles, the primary one being a story about “a mortally wounded soldier resurrected with cutting-edge nanotechnology and tasked with rounding up superpowered outcasts known as ‘harbingers’” called Bloodshot.

As Sony already knows, it’s not easy to just create a new cinematic universe willy-nilly, but one ingredient you absolutely have to nail is good casting. With that in mind, it looks like Vin Diesel is in talks to take the Bloodshot role. (We also heard back in July that Jared Leto might take a role in the film as well.)

Vin Diesel’s a busy guy, but I can see him wanting to get into the superhero game, beyond voicing Groot, that is. And Sony’s not messing around with Bloodshot. The script will be by Arrival’s Eric Heisserer, and Fast and Furious’ Neal Moritz will produce (along with Valiant’s Dinesh Shamdasani), which lends credibility to Diesel joining.

Sony is also looking to go R-rated with this thing, which adds another interesting wrinkle to a property I (and I assume a lot of other folks) don’t know very well. It’s going to have to be something special for people to get on board with a proposed five-movie series. Not even Tom Cruise was enough to get The Mummy going. But then again, if they had let Mr. Hyde swear a lot and rip people in half, that whole thing might have gone down differently.

We’ll keep our eye on this one to see how it develops. I’m not 100% on board with the idea yet, but it does have my curiosity, though I'll be distraught if it makes Vin Diesel too busy to make more xXx movies.
