Steve Carell Will Headline SPACE FORCE, A New Netflix Series From The Team Behind THE OFFICE

In which one of Trump's very serious and very legitimate ideas becomes comedy fodder.

What with everything else going on in the world of politics (the ongoing government shutdown; the debate surrounding a $5B border wall; the tanking stock market; the embarrassing photo opps involving candelabras and fast food; the reveal that the FBI was compelled to investigate the president of the United States for being a possible Russian asset; the nagging suspicion that we're all living inside some sort of cruel simulation that's gone horribly awry - y'know, normal shit), you might have forgotten that one of Trump's recent misadventures involved the announcement of a "Space Force", which is...well, it's exactly what it sounds like: a new branch of the armed forces designed to do space stuff.

Ya know who didn't forget about it, though? The Office showrunner Greg Daniels and its former star, Steve Carell, who've just been announced as the creators of a brand-new Netflix comedy series called Space Force.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix heard Carell and Daniels' pitch and immediately ordered Space Force to series. Described as "a workplace comedy centered around the people tasked with creating a sixth branch of the armed services — Space Force", the show doesn't have a release date, any further (announced) cast members, or a firm episode count, but given the talent involved it's immediately one of our most anticipated new series. Just the idea of it is funny.

Worth noting: this is Carell's big return to episodic comedy after spending the past few years working in feature films. A lot of those films have been great (some of them even earned Carell awards consideration!), but we'd be lying if we didn't admit that we've been hoping he'd do something like The Office again at some point. From where we're standing, this is sort of a best-case scenario.

What do you folks think? Hyped for Space Force? Not so much? Wish these dang Hollywood liberals would keep their dang politics outta your comedy shows? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned for more on Space Force as further updates become available.
