Saying Hello To ASTRON-6

In the Houston area? You don't want to miss this!

This past July, I wrote a eulogy for Astron-6, the Canadian filmmaking collective who seemingly had broken up following the release of their short film Chowboys and the release of their web series Divorced Dad. In the article, I wrote “In writing this obituary for the group, I have decided to program a retrospective of their films as part of Graveyard Shift, the weekly horror series I program in Houston, later this year.”

It’s taken me a few months but on Friday, December 6, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - LaCenterra will host an Astron-6 retrospective featuring screenings of all three of the group’s films: Father’s Day, Manborg and The Editor, plus a few short films and other surprises. What kind of other surprises? How about the fact that all five members of Astron-6 will be in attendance!

Holy shit.

Adam Brooks, Jeremy Gillespie, Matt Kennedy, Conor Sweney and Steven Kostanski are all flying from the wild northern land of Canada to Houston, TX where December means 90 degree temperatures and a constant humidity that will reach into your soul and never let go.

But don’t worry about the weather because we’re going to be spending five hours in a movie theater watching films with these Canadian genre superstars. You’ll see Father’s Day, a movie about a demonic entity that, well, rapes fathers. You’ll see Manborg, a pitch-perfect homage to genre staples of the ‘80s and ‘90s about a post-apocalyptic warrior. You’ll see The Editor, the group’s amazing tribute to Giallo films. Between the films, you’ll also be treated to Q&As, short surprises from the group’s history and a chance to pay tribute to one of the best damn group of filmmakers to burst into the scene during the last fifteen years.

Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to resurrect the legacy of Astron-6 for another night and celebrate their amazing creative output.

Heck, maybe we can even convince them to reunite for another project.

The triple feature kicks off at 8:30 PM on Friday, December 6 at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - LaCenterra. Buy tickets here.
