Warner Bros Thinks GREEN LANTERN Failed Because It Wasn’t Dark Or Edgy Enough

Better start practicing your Batman growl, Ryan Reynolds.

Jeff Robinov, president of Warner Bros, thinks he knows what was wrong with Green Lantern. No, it wasn’t the bad script, which found Hal Jordan spending half the movie sitting on his couch, getting pep talks. No, it wasn’t poop cloud monster at the end. Robinov thinks Green Lantern wasn’t grim n’ gritty enough.

“To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action…. And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.” That’s what he tells the LA Times.

Sigh. I guess when you have The Dark Knight under your belt you think  that every superhero movie needs to be dark and edgy, but the reality is that every superhero movie needs A GOOD SCRIPT. And since Green Lantern 2 is currently being written by Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, the same jokers who wrote the first film, hopes for a good script are slim.
