Tyler Perry And Oprah Winfrey Are Giving You Two New Shows To Ignore

One of them could be the craziest show ever.

As much as I love Tyler Perry, I have to admit to only a passing knowledge of this television work. There's just way too much of it. And the little I've seen displays far too little of the kind of warped action I come to Tyler Perry for, anyway. He puts them together so quickly and mindlessly that I doubt even he has seen them all.

I am going to watch them someday though, especially his most recent For Better or Worse, a weirdly single camera sitcom shot on multicam-appropriate studio soundstages that details the marital troubles of Marcus and Angela from the Why Did I Get Married films. I saw the first two episodes, and they blew me away, but I haven't had an opportunity to catch up since then.

That's the other thing about Tyler Perry's TV shows. Short of actually having a television, it's not easy to see his stuff without paying full price. He's not a very Netflix Instant friendly guy. Actually, when it comes to money, I don't think he's a very nice guy at all. If he caught a single mother of four blind kids downloading his TV shows, I'm pretty sure he'd have her hounded to the full extent of the law. His famous altruism and sensitivity is nowhere to be found when it comes to people getting his shit for free.

Anyway, Tyler Perry's pal Oprah has a TV channel now, appropriately titled OWN, and she managed to net not one but two new Tyler Perry television shows. One is a comedy called Love Thy Neighbor, and one is drama called The Haves and the Have Nots. Here is a synopsis for each:

The Haves And The Have Nots is about the dynamics of the affluent Cryer family and the impoverished family of their housekeeper Hanna, and the obstacles and secrets that exist within both families. Love Thy Neighbor is set at Love’s Diner, where every day the menu serves up good food, great laughs, valuable life lessons, and a whole lot of love for its zany neighbors.

Another stupid comedy doesn't excite me much (though the fact that it's called Love They Neighbor while being about a family named Love tickles me greatly), but this drama has my rapt attention. While Tyler Perry's thoughtless approach to sub-Leno comedy often leads to forgettable banality, the same approach to dramatic material could produce the kind of wacky accidental amorality that made me fall in love with Perry in the first place.

So if any of you have televisions and your television has this OWN channel, could you please record Love Thy Neighbor on your VCR and sent it to me through the mail or something? I am but a poor blacksmith with no means for stingy urban entertainment.
