WALKING DEAD Showrunner Glen Mazzara Walks Away From Fourth Season

Despite guiding the series to a much improved third season (you can read our reviews of the show here), showrunner Glen Mazzara will depart The Walking Dead for the recently announced fourth season. He took over for Frank Darabont in Season Two, and has led the show in a more entertaining, faster-paced direction. 

According to AMC, 

“Glen guided the series creatively for seasons 2 and 3. AMC is grateful for his hard work. We are both proud of our shared success. Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward, and conclude that it is best to part ways.  This decision is amicable and Glen will remain on for post-production on season 3B as showrunner and executive producer.”

The Walking Dead still suffers from atrocious writing, but it's fun now, even thrilling at times. While Mazzara will stick around for the post-production on the rest of Season Three, my fear is that the so-called difference of opinion is that Mazzara wanted the show to be interesting, and AMC wants it to be boring again. It also feels notable that a hugely popular series that's only been around two and a half seasons should display such high turnaround behind the scenes. What is going on with you, AMC?
