Woody Allen’s Latest Gets A Title, Distributor
Everybody thinks that JJ Abrams is the king of secrecy, but the real monarch is Woody Allen. We only find out the titles of his films long after they're finished shooting, and we almost never find out their plots until they come out. Hell, it's always shocking to learn who is in these films. These days all we tend to know is in which country he was shooting.
We already knew he shot the latest film in America - San Francisco, to be precise - and we also knew his killer cast, which includes Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard and Michael Stuhlbarg. Now we know the title: Blue Jasmine. And a synopsis! "It is the story of the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife." Sally Hawkins plays the housewife, I think.
The film will be coming out from Sony Pictures Classics, who released From Rome With Love and Midnight in Paris; now to find out what sort of Woody movie this is. In his later years he has bounced between the sublime and the unwatchable, with his last couple of pictures making up a pretty good run. While From Rome With Love was super minor, Midnight In Paris is a joy. With this cast I'm hoping for more Midnight in Paris, less You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger.
