Warner Bros. Gives JUPITER ASCENDING A Big, Summer Release Date

That's the good news.

The Wachowskis could use a win. Cloud Atlas and Speed Racer are both amazing films that will likely live on and grow in appreciation far beyond their disappointing box office takes would indicate, but films don't justify their existence on badassery alone. For the Wachowskis to keep making movies, some of those movies have to make money.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has staked out a big, fat summer tentpole spot for the Wachowskis' latest, Jupiter Ascending, which will come out July 25, 2014. As of right now, that puts it opposite The Rock and Brett Ratner's Hercules film. And we all know what would happen in a cage match between Jupiter and Hercules.

This bodes well for Jupiter Ascending's chances, as it indicates Warner's faith in the project. The film stars Sean Bean, Channing Tatum, and Mila Kunis and revolves a round a poor, simple hu-MON (as Quark would say) who is on the run from The Queen of the Universe. How could that not be incredible?

But that's not all of Warner's massively interesting scheduling news. Grudge Match, the Sylvester Stallone, Robert De Niro boxing movie which looks like this:

…has been moved from November 15, 2013 to January 10, 2014. While it's too bad we'll have to wait longer to see this one, I have a feeling that it belongs more in the warm B-movie morass of January than the award-bait land of tuxedos that is November. Obviously, I'm seriously looking forward to Grudge Match, but I can wait a couple months.
