UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING Uncut Now Available Domestically

I don't know how long it's been available, but the uncut version of Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning is now available domestically on Amazon. Before, you had to walk/swim to Germany and pull the Blu-ray out of a corpse's vagina with your teeth if you wanted to see it in its full-on gory original form.

For a mere $15, now you too can see what we all saw at Fantastic Fest. Usually these unrated action films fill their extra time with the hero shooting people in the tummy fifteen times instead of just twice (exactly what you get if you watch the uncut version of Hard Target, for instance). The uncut version of Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning has a lot of that too, but it also has a couple vital pieces of violence that really suck in the R-rated version.

Is it a good movie? That's a far more complicated issue. I have grown to absolutely love it, but it's definitely a weird one. While I was once disappointed in its illusions of grandeur and unwillingness to just be a kick-ass action film like Universal Soldier: Regeneration, I now see and appreciate what it was trying to do way more. Regeneration appears quaint by comparison. But even with all my enthusiasms and four increasingly great viewings, I still cannot call the central Scott Adkins mystery story Hyams was going for a success. So it's a very flawed movie that I adore.

Now everyone can see it the way it was meant to be seen. Minus the 3D. I always forget about that part. Also, keep in mind that this is not a DVD or a Blu-ray deal, only a digital copy. That's all I ever fuck with, but I know some of you guys still like that stuff. Maybe someday you'll get this in your preferred format. Why they'd put out a basically DTV film in neutered form will never make sense to me.
