Harvey Weinstein Eager To Ruin SNOWPIERCER
With not so great reviews coming in for Elysium, we must now look to Snowpiercer for our totally amazing sci-fi class warfare allegory. But maybe we lost that one, too. News broke last night that TWC honcho Harvey Weinstein is currently fighting with badass director Bong Joon-ho over the American release of the film.
According to an interview with Tony Rayns, a film festival programmer who has spoken with Bong Joon-ho, Weinstein worries that people in the flyover states won't understand Snowpiercer in its current form and demands 20 minutes be cut from the film, dumping character for action. He also wants to add voice-overs to the film's beginning and ending, likely recorded by the cast of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
This will probably happen, putting us all in a weird situation where we have to choose whether to go see the inferior version first or wait for the inevitable "Director's Cut" Blu-ray release. You want to support a great filmmaker, but the chances of it being crappy are astronomical.
Or maybe it won't come out theatrically at all. The film is already out and doing well in Korea. Here, it doesn't even have a release date yet.
