Future Movie Review: I Saw The I SAW THE DEVIL English Remake

Don't even try to re-do that knife fight in the car.

Given the massive box office success of Spike Lee's Oldboy remake, we probably should have seen this one coming. Producers Adi Shankar and Spencer Silna now have the English language rights to Kim Jee-woon's I Saw the Devil.

I guess I can see why you'd want to remake the film, not for its brand name recognition but because the story of a cop who goes really far out of his way to get revenge on the serial killer who murdered his lady is pretty cool. The Oldboy story seemed pretty cool, too.

The notion that they'd make anything as horrific and violent as the original, however, is pretty far fetched. If you haven't seen it yet, I Saw the Devil is not an easy watch. It's incredible, for sure. But the violence it portrays extends well beyond what normal American movies go for. Even when the bad guy takes a dump in this movie, it's a barf-worthy, steaming pancake of inhuman muck rather than something that might actually come out of a guy's butt. Whether they adapt that part will be this movie's "will there be incest?"
