AS ABOVE, SO BELOW Looks Like It’s Gonna Be A Nightmare For The Claustrophobic

Legendary Pictures and director John Erick Dowdle invite you to explore the catacombs of Paris.

Generally speaking, Legendary Pictures is known for making big-ass blockbuster movies (The Dark Knight, The Hangover, Inception), and their next crop of films (Godzilla, Interstellar, Jurassic World) looks like it'll continue that tradition...with one notable exception: As Above, So Below, a found-footage horror film opening this August.

So, yeah. As a gentleman with claustrophobic leanings, I gotta admit that this looks utterly terrifying. John Erick Dowdle - who also directed Quarantine and Devil - is in the captain's chair on this one, and it looks like he's playing with some interesting ideas here.

All of this is encouraging, as far as I'm concerned. When I initially heard the pitch for As Above, So Below, I assumed we were headed into another round of "evil subterranean creatures" (or, even worse, vampires, which are to the horror genre what McDonald's is to food). Instead, it looks like Dowdle's angling for something a little less commonplace, and that gives me hope.

As Above, So Below opens on August 15th. Claustrophobes and those with an irrational fear of pianos are advised to give it a wide berth.
