Tom Hiddleston And Jordan Vogt-Roberts Set Sail For SKULL ISLAND

It's THE KING KONGS OF SUMMER.

One of the big surprises out of Comic-Con this year was Legendary's announcement of a Skull Island movie. Nobody saw a new King Kong feature coming, but here it was, and it got me very pumped. But it was just an announcement - everything about the movie itself was shrouded in mystery.

Until now! Legendary has made some big, big reveals about Skull Island: the movie will star Tom Hiddleston and will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, helmer of The Kings of Summer and the recent sitcom hit You're the Worst. That's pretty amazing - Hiddleston is ready for his own franchise, and Vogt-Roberts, who is also attached to the Metal Gear Solid movie, is just a completely exciting choice for the movie. I think he'll be bringing a very fresh perspective to the material, as he's not a slavish nerd about the property.

But what will the material be? Who knows! Here's what Legendary has to say:

Legendary announced its plans to make a feature film based on the cinematic origins of King Kong during this year’s San Diego Comic Con with an original draft of the script by Max Borenstein. Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions. Universal Pictures will distribute the film on November 4, 2016.

So it's not even clear if Borenstein's draft will be what we see on the screen (although the wording here is to let us know this is an original story, not based on something pre-existing). I hope it's a period piece, because I think the idea of Hiddleston as a Horatio Hornblower type sailor is swoon-worthy.
