Netflix’s WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER Series Now Stars Everyone You Like
This morning, Meredith posted the teaser trailer for Netflix's upcoming Wet Hot American Summer prequel series, and there was much rejoicing: not only did the clip manage to include a reprise of "Higher & Higher" (a song I am physically incapable of hearing without giggling like an idiot), but it also confirmed that, yes, literally everyone from David Wain's 2001 masterpiece would be returning.
Now comes word that Wet Hot's already-stellar cast is being joined by a number of equally awesome (and frequently hilarious) individuals: Mad Men star Jon Hamm, future Ghostbuster Kristen Wiig, Rushmore alum Jason Schwartzman and Captain Kirk himself, Chris Pine*. As far as who they're playing, Deadline says they've heard that Hamm's playing a "secret agent" (!!!), Wiig is playing "a snobby counselor at the preppy rival camp Camp Tigerclaw" and Pine is playing someone "mysterious" (I'm picturing his character as Gene's long-lost brother, and it works).
These four join a sprawling cast that includes Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, H. Jon Benjamin, Randall Park, Jayma Mays, Michael Ian Black, Michael Benjamin, A.D. Miles, Paul Rudd, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Christopher Meloni, Kevin Sussman, Michaela Watkins, John Slattery, Kevin Sussman, Josh Charles, Richard Schiff, Lake Bell, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel. Holy shit, that's a lot of talent. And that's just for right now! If things continue at this pace, Wet Hot American Summer will continue to swell until it includes everything we love, not just performers: pizza, Xenomorphs, energetic puppies, Jason Vorhees, cookie butter, what have you.
Stay tuned. We'll keep informed in the lead-up to the show's premiere on Netflix this summer.
* = By the way, if Pine seems like an odd choice to you for this, I suggest you check out his performance in Stretch.
