Gore Verbinski To Direct The Movie You Always Wanted Gore Verbinski To Direct
Maybe you don’t like Gore Verbinski. Or maybe you haven’t liked him in a while. I tend to think he’s great, even when his film don’t work. The only real problem he can’t seem to avoid is absurdly long running times. Regardless, he gets to make all these big-ass movies, but I feel he’s a genuine weirdo deep down.
According to Deadline, Verbinski’s next film will be an adventure comedy about a transcontinental race featuring self-driving cars. Each car has a passenger, but they’re kind of just stuck in there doing nothing. This sounds incredible.
The film currently has no title but will be written by The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’s Steve Conrad. Here are some really interesting quotes from Verbinski and Conrad about the project:
“Essentially, we are going to take the funniest comedic actors of this generation and slowly unleash them as we examine the very notion of ‘passengers’ who fundamentally cannot remain passive,” Verbinski said.
Said Conrad: “We want to invert the whole premise of a road trip where the promise has always been, ‘anything can happen’, and say, ‘what if anything can’t happen’? What does that do to the test subject? What are the breaking points?”
I like the premise all by itself, but it’s also promising that both are approaching this with themes already in place. Hopefully this lives up to some of the potential we see here in this magical place where the film doesn't even have a title yet and Johnny Depp isn't involved.
