Welp, Here’s The First Trailer For M. Night Shyamalan’s THE VISIT
Here's the trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's next film, The Visit. It's...well, it's something. Not what I was expecting, surely (found footage? From Shyamalan?!), and it's got one or two shots that strike me as unintentionally comical (the "I was just cleaning it!" beat feels all wrong), but there's also enough going on here to get me intrigued. I'm curious where this story's headed, and I'm eager to be scared by Shyamalan again.
Yeah, that's right. I said it. I like M. Night Shyamalan. There's no defending his last few films, to be sure (The Last Airbender is literally so bad I've never completed a viewing), and he's certainly dug himself a bit of a grave with his posturing/attempts to foster a certain amount of mystique around himself (The Buried Secret Of M. Night Shyamalan, I'm looking in your direction), but I like the guy. I root for him to do good. I still rewatch Unbreakable and Signs on the regular, how could I not?
I imagine this will prove an unpopular opinion, and perhaps the naysayers will be given fresh ammo with The Visit. But for the time being, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that finally, for the first time in over a decade, there'll be a new Shyamalan film to embrace. Wouldn't that be kinda cool? Wouldn't that be amazing?
The Visit arrives on September 11th.
Personal Note: I'll see to it that any jackass tossing around the beyond-tired and casually racist "Shyamalamadingdong" gag in the comments section gets banned with extreme prejudice. Be better than that.
