NBC And Dolly Parton Are Producing A Biopic Of The Country Star’s Life

Singer, songwriter, actress, mogul and Badass Hall of Fame initiate Dolly Parton signed a development deal with NBC in January, and today we learned that the first original movie under this deal will be Coat of Many Colors, a film about Parton's upbringing in rural Tennessee. The film is named after Dolly's 1971 song, also about her childhood:

Parton will serve as executive producer on the project, and she may participate in front of the camera for future projects with NBC: 

NBC’s deal with Parton, announced in January, includes a series of standalone TV movies based on Parton’s songs, stories and life. They will contain music but won’t be musicals, with Parton possibly appearing in some. Parton is developing the projects with production partner Sam Haskell of Magnolia Hill Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.

Dolly Parton has lived a seriously fascinating life, marrying her homespun, big-haired country charm with a remarkable sense of business savvy and a liberal, open-hearted acceptance that might seem at odds with her small-town Christian values. She's an extraordinary woman, a personal hero of mine, and having read both of her autobiographies and having visited Dollywood in December, I feel equipped to tell you that there can never be enough stories about this brilliant, hilarious, talented, tough, gorgeous woman.
