Javier Bardem & Penelope Cruz To Star In Pablo Escobar Romantic Comedy

Warning: There is a slight chance it won’t be a romantic comedy.

Everything’s coming up Escobar. We already have Escobar: Paradise Lost, in which a surfer falls in love with Pablo Escobar’s niece. Now we need to get ready for another Escobar movie, this one just called Escobar. The point is, if you work hard, people will remember you.

That’s actually a boring title, especially compared to the film’s source material, Virginia Vallejo’s Spanish-language book, Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar. The true story is about Colombian journalist Vallejo’s love affair with the drug kingpin in the 1980s.

So who will play these star-crossed lovers and will they be handsome/beautiful enough to make us care about their affair? The answers are Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, and yes.

Production should begin on Escobar sometime later this year. A Perfect Day’s Fernando León de Aranoa is set to write and direct.
