And Now Javier Bardem’s Joining Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE
Earlier this week we learned that Oscar Isaac and Zendaya were both climbing aboard Denis Villeneuve's forthcoming Dune adaptation, and we figured that'd probably be it for Dune casting announcements, at least until next week. This was a foolish thing to assume.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, none other than Javier Bardem has entered negotiations to join the film. He'd be playing Stilgar, the leader of the nomadic Fremen tribes of Arrakis (if you've seen David Lynch's 1984 version of Dune, this was the role Everett McGill played). Bardem's a cool choice for the role, and it's exciting to see him teaming up with Villeneuve. Kind of amazing they haven't worked together at this point, now that we're thinking about it.
Bardem joins a cast that already includes the aforementioned Oscar Isaac and Zendaya, along with Stellan Skarsgard, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Timothee Chalamet. What an insane cast this movie is putting together. And they're not even close to being finished! Who knows what next week's inevitable round of casting announcements will bring. Maybe we'll all be in Dune before this thing is said and done.
Nothing further to report at this time, but rest assured we'll keep you abreast of all future Dune-related updates as they roll in. Stay tuned.
