A Kitten Menaces Key And Peele In The First Photo From KEANU
Comedy Central's Key & Peele has, sadly, run its course, but the future's looking bright for co-creators Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele: in between popping up in a variety of other people's funny projects (Key just had a memorable appearance in W/ Bob And David; Peele played a key role in this summer's Wet Hot American Summer sequel), the two have been hard at work on their next joint venture: a comedy by the name of Keanu, directed by Key & Peele's brilliant Peter Atencio.
Entertainment Weekly, source of all first-look photos that have ever been and ever will be, has our first look at the film:
That's an evocative image. What's the movie about, Jordan Peele?
“This entire movie was basically the most expensive adorable-kitten video of all time,” jokes Peele, who wrote Keanu with Key & Peele alum Alex Rubens. “Overall it’s meant to satirize how pop culture paints masculinity and what it means to be African-American — and how many of us don’t fit into the mold expected of us.”
More specifically, EW says that Keanu tells the story of two "blerds" ("black nerds") who impersonate gangsters in order to infiltrate a drug cartel, which - for reasons unknown - is in possession of their stolen cat, Keanu. So it's probably safe to assume that that's Keanu in the photo above, then, and not some evil kitten who's taken two blerds hostage.
Peter Atencio's Keanu arrives on April 29th, and we couldn't be more excited about it. The Key & Peele withdrawal is real, folks.
