The Clowns Come Out To Play In Rob Zombie’s 31 Trailer

Using the term ‘play’ loosely here.

It’s been four years since Rob Zombie made the wonderfully weird and relatively restrained The Lords of Salem (yes, I know I used the word “restrained” to describe a movie with a meat baby). Now he’s back with 31, a movie that looks almost like parody. I’m not sure if that’s even a bad thing or not. Check out the trailer:

I’ve been in the bag for this film since it was announced. The plot - a bunch of goofballs are abducted and forced to survive twelve hours among murderous clowns - is just too hilarious to ignore. I am less sold, however, by the trailer. I don’t know if it’s the look of the film or just the way it’s edited, but this isn’t selling me on a gory good time. Instead, it looks more like a cacophonous chore.

Plenty of you are probably chomping at the bit to tell me I just described every Rob Zombie movie, but I like the guy, even if I sometimes strongly dislike his films. I’ll just have to wait and see what I’m getting with this one because this trailer isn’t helping out at all. What do you guys think?
