Steven Spielberg Will Not Let INDIANA JONES Die

The Hollywood Reporter's got a new interview with Steven Spielberg in which The Beard discusses a wide range of topics: the forthcoming The BFG, his return to Universal, his would-be remake of West Side Story (Tony Kushner's hammering away at the script), the trauma of making Schindler's List...really, it's a solid interview and you should absolutely read the whole thing. 

But while you're doing that, we'll be here discussing what Spielberg had to say about Indiana Jones 5:

He won't reveal plot details, except this: "The one thing I will tell you is I'm not killing off Harrison (Ford) at the end of it."

"Unlike some franchises," I imagine Spielberg adding under his breath.

Let's be frank: Spielberg not being open to killing off Indiana Jones ain't much of a revelation. After Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull's disastrous reception (yes, it made money, but find me someone who thinks it's worthy of the original trilogy), one suspects the next Indy film will be working overtime to keep fans happy. Spielberg himself seems to confirm that suspicion, telling The Hollywood Reporter that Indiana Jones 5 will be "straight down the pike for the fans".

I remain unconvinced that we should tempt fate (again) with another Indiana Jones, but I'll admit to being hopeful that Spielberg can bring this franchise in for a landing.
