John Boyega Joins Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit Riot Drama

For those of us who've been singing John Boyega's praises since 2011's Attack The Block, it's been an enormously gratifying year. Our dude dominated in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, landed the lead role in Pacific Rim 2, and appeared in countless slash-fic romances with Oscar Isaac. 

And now, as if he didn't already have enough going on, Boyega has signed on to star in Kathryn Bigelow's still-untitled Detroit riot drama.

Here's how they're describing the film over at Variety:

Details about the Detroit project remain scarce other though it’s known to be a crime drama set against the backdrop of Detroit’s devastating riots that took place over five haunting summer days in 1967.

As Variety points out, the project still doesn't have a home studio, but it sounds like producers are aiming for a 2017 release, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the riots. For now, there's no word on who Boyega might be playing in the film.
