Meryl Streep Joins Disney’s MARY POPPINS Sequel
Word on the street is, Rob Marshall's Mary Poppins sequel is adding yet another powerhouse performer to its cast: Meryl Streep.
Here's the news, via Empire:
Busy making preparations for Mary Poppins sequel Mary Poppins Returns, director Rob Marshall is looking to wrangle a reunion for two of his Into The Woods stars. He already has Emily Blunt as Mary, but Meryl Streep is now in talks to be her cousin.
Mary Poppins has a cousin? Yeah, turns out she does: Topsy Poppins.
In Mary Poppins Returns, Topsy Poppins (Streep) and lamplighter Jack (Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda) will be assisting Mary Poppins (Blunt) as she returns to Depression-era London to again teach valuable life lessons and sing catchy songs to the Banks family. This time around, they'll be helping a now-grown Michael Banks navigate parenthood. This being Depression-era London, I imagine the Poppins family will also be bringing some much-needed cheer to the Banks household.
Mary Poppins Returns is still a ways off - it won't arrive until Christmas of 2018 - but we will of course be keeping you updated as developments occur.
