Disney Pauses Production On Most Live-Action Movies, Including Ridley Scott’s Latest

Just this morning, it was reported that Disney had halted production on Marvel's Shang-Chi due to rising concerns regarding the coronavirus, or COVID-19. On the heels of that report comes word from Variety that Disney has moved to pause production and pre-production on most of their upcoming live-action films, which includes Fox titles. Currently, Disney has shut down production on The Little Mermaid, Home Alone, Guillermo del Toro's Nightmare Alley, Peter Pan & Wendy, the new Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movie, and Ridley Scott's The Last Duel—but given the baller way Scott handled those drastic last-minute changes on All the Money in the World, I have a feeling he'll be just fine. 

In an official statement, the studio said production will be shut down for "a short time," though it remains unclear if or when it might be reasonable for these projects to resume. Also uncertain is how this delay may impact release dates; The Last Duel, starring and co-written by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon (with additional scripting from Nicole Holofcener) is set to hit theaters this Christmas. Here's the official statement from Disney:

While there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on our productions, after considering the current environment and the best interests of our cast and crew, we have made the decision to pause production on some of our live-action films for a short time. We will continue to assess the situation and restart as soon as feasible.
