Get Out Your Chainsaws: TV Land Is Moving Forward With That HEATHERS TV Show

The 1988 classic is getting the TV treatment.

A few years ago, the world dodged a bullet when Bravo decided to pass on a TV show based on the 1988 dark-comedy classic, Heathers. That was 2013, though, and our nation's thirst for '80s remakes had not yet reached its fever pitch.

But now, in the regrettable year of 2016, things are much different. As you've surely noticed, one '80s remake after another has proven a commercial and critical hit, to the point where it would be culturally and financially irresponsible not to remake Michael Lehmann's film.

So now this is happening:

TV Land has given the green light to the Heathers pilot based on the 1988 cult classic film of the same name. Leslye Headland (Sleeping with Other PeopleBachelorette) will direct the pitch-black comedy.

Reimagined as an anthology, Heathers will be set in the present day, as our heroine deals with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers.

That's a report from Coming Soon, who also note that the Heathers pilot will shoot later this fall, with a script by Butter's Jason Micallef. As of right now, there's no word on casting or a likely premiere date for the show.

I'm honestly not sure what to make of the fact that Heathers: The TV Show will be an anthology series, but I guess that might not be a terrible idea? I feel like we need a few more details before we can make the call on that one.

Stay tuned for more updates on Heathers as they become available.
