Reese Witherspoon And Mindy Kaling Are Joining Ava DuVernay’s A WRINKLE IN TIME
As you know, director Ava DuVernay is currently working with Disney on an adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time. As you might not have known, the film has already secured a performance from Oprah Winfrey, and today it was revealed that two more talented actresses are circling the project: Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling.
If, like me, you've never read A Wrinkle In Time, The Hollywood Reporter's exclusive has you covered:
The Newbery Medal-winning book centers on a young girl who finds herself on an interplanetary journey with a schoolmate and her younger brother to find her missing father, a scientist. They are aided on their quest by a trio of supernatural beings, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which.
Winfrey has already been cast as Mrs. Which, while Witherspoon and Kaling are eyeing the roles of Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who, respectively. The Hollywood Reporter goes on to say that Witherspoon's character is "a former celestial being who looks like a grandmotherly hobo", which is not the most flattering character description I've come across today.
A Wrinkle In Time is expected to go in front of cameras this November. Expect it to be a big-ass deal when it arrives, and don't be surprised if they go ahead and adapt the other four books in the series if it's a hit (note: it'll be a hit).
