EXPENDABLES Writer To Help Tame THE WOLF MAN For Universal

Things are about to get hairy.

Universal’s plan to turn their deep bench of classic movie monsters into a big cinematic universe is still little more than a curiosity. We laughed off their initial attempts (I, Frankenstein and Dracula Untold), only to have them bounce back with a Mummy movie starring Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe. Believe it or not, that movie comes out this summer. Up next is The Wolf Man.

As with The Mummy, we don’t know a whole lot about what kind of movie this will be. But we do know who will write it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dave Callaham has been hired to rewrite Aaron Guzikowski’s script.

Callaham has had an interesting career. He worked on the first two Expendables scripts, which doesn’t bode well, especially since the best part of those movies (or any movie, really) was likely improvised:

On the other hand, he created Jean-Claude Van Johnson, which is perhaps the greatest show ever made - just going by the one episode we’ve seen so far, which I feel is fair.

In short, this doesn’t really tell us much about what we can expect from The Wolf Man, though it does indicate more action than horror. That’s good news for knuckleheads like me, but I feel a little bad for all you horror fans!
