The Mystery Box Opens: GOD PARTICLE Is Definitely A CLOVERFIELD Movie

JJ Abrams is either really pissed or really relieved right now.

Well, the cat is out of the bag, courtesy of The Wrap. The movie everyone will pretend to keep calling God Particle is actually the third in JJ Abrams’ anthology-like Cloverfield series. Somehow. Does that even mean anything other than small moves with wacky elements? We’re about to find out.

And this isn’t even the only piece of news. Apparently, the whole Cloverfield thing is now going to be an annual event. I laughed at first until I realized God Particle comes out in February. That’s way easier than I was expecting. Maybe they can pull that off after all. Every year, we’re going to get a new feature film Twilight Zone episode. That’s not so bad, really.

The real question is whether or not these films will connect in any way beyond cute nods and Slusho product placement. Like, I wouldn’t be upset if I were to ever see the Cloverfield monster again. Especially if it showed up in a film worthy of that incredible monster design (I adore 10 Cloverfield Lane, by the way).

As for God Particle, it’s about astronauts who make some kind of crazy discovery out in some kind of alternate reality that they have to some kind of survive. It was directed by Julis Onah and stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O’Dowd and Daniel Brühl. I hope it’s great. But if it’s not, there’s always next year.
