Gary Oldman IS Winston Churchill In Joe Wright’s DARKEST HOUR
Above and below, please find your first look at Gary "EVERYONE!" Oldman as Winston Churchill in Joe Wright's upcoming WWII drama, Darkest Hour. It's pretty damn impressive!
He looks great, right? By the way, I say that assuming we're looking at a very well-executed piece of practical makeup work, not Gary Oldman plus 40 pounds. Considering Oldman's commitment to the craft, I suppose either is as likely, but for his own health I'm hoping it's the former.
Anyway, the image comes to us from Coming Soon, who describe Darkest Hour thusly:
Within days of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals, liberty and freedom of a nation. As the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe and the threat of invasion is imminent, and with an unprepared public, a skeptical King, and his own party plotting against him, Churchill must withstand his darkest hour, rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history.
So, not a comedy. But with Wright at the helm and Oldman in the lead, I have to imagine this one's going to be something special. Plus, in addition to Oldman, you've got my dude Ben Mendelsohn, John Hurt, Lily James, and Kristin Scott Thomas. That's a helluva lineup.
We're a ways off from Darkest Hour arriving - it gets here next November - but we'll be keeping a close eye on this one as it works its way through production.
