Greg Berlanti’s Directing A LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS Remake
According to Deadline:
Warner Bros is moving forward with a new incarnation of Little Shop of Horrors, with Greg Berlanti set to direct and Matthew Robinson writing the script. This one will be a musical, a fresh version of the 30-year old Frank Oz-directed film.
Let's get this out of the way upfront: Frank Oz' Little Shop Of Horrors is a great goddamn movie (it's so delightful, in fact, that I'm sort of annoyed not to be watching it right now), and if you've never had the pleasure of seeing it, I strongly advise that you rectify that at your earliest convenience. You will thank me and I will say, "No problem, happy to have helped."
Secondly: yes, it's a remake. Boo-hoo, remakes! Folks, you've been reading this site long enough to know where I stand on this issue - remakes do not erase the existence of originals, even at their most useless (that copy of Carpenter's The Thing is still in your collection, right? Right). If you're upset that Little Shop's being remade, I cannot be your shoulder to cry on.
And besides: Greg Berlanti's an interesting choice for this. My understanding is that Berlanti's done a helluva job with Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and the upcoming Riverdale. Matthew Robinson I'm not as familiar with, but IMDb tells me he wrote The Invention Of Lying and, uh, the upcoming Monster Trucks.
In any event, I'll happily go see someone else take a crack at this property. If anything, my real question is: who's gonna be writing the songs, and how can we make sure that it's Lin-Manuel Miranda who gets the job?
What do you guys think?
