Dear Marvel, Please Let Ben Wheatley Make A MARVEL ZOMBIES Movie

Just give the man what he wants.

In a new interview with Little White Lies, Free Fire director Ben Wheatley casually mentions that he'd be interested in directing a Marvel Zombies movie, and we see no reason why he should be denied this opportunity.

Asked if he'd be interested in making a big superhero movie, Wheatley says:

I dunno. I don’t really know how those things work. Marvel Zombies hasn’t been done which is what I’m interested in. Maybe that’s a bit too niche. Marvel’s interesting in that it’s kind of a hybrid of cinema and television. A very, very expensive TV show that you buy a pass for every three months.

We are officially calling upon Kevin Feige and the good folks at Marvel to let Ben Wheatley direct a Marvel Zombies movie. Cut the man a check for whatever amount of money he needs (note: that's likely to be way, way less than you've spent on any other Marvel movie at this point) and get out of his way. It's the right thing to do.

Marvel Zombies, for those of you who aren't aware, was a five-issue limited series written by The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman and published by Marvel back in 2005. It does right what it says on the tin: it turns your favorite Marvel superheroes into zombies and has them eating each other. Here's an excerpt of the plot synopsis, via Wikipedia:

The story begins as an unknown superhero from another dimension, brought by the "Hunger", crash lands before infecting the Avengers. The infection spreads via contact with the blood of the victim, usually through a bite by an infected individual. The zombie super heroes largely retain their intellect, personality and their super powers, although they are consistently driven by the "Hunger" for human flesh. As the story begins, the Marvel Zombies have already devoured all non-transhuman human life on Earth and are now without food (as prefigured in Marvel Zombies: Dead Days, a later tie-in).

If we're being realistic, it's wildly unlikely that a Marvel Zombies movie will ever happen. But what's the fun in being realistic? Let's dream big, and imagine living in a world where Ben Wheatley makes a movie where a zombified Tony Stark eats Hawkeye's brains. That's the world we want to be living in, and we won't be happy until we are.

Make it so, Marvel.
