Marvel’s Totally Cool With Joss Whedon Making That BATGIRL Movie
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel CEO Kevin Feige says that Joss Whedon - former Avengers director and recently announced writer/director of a brand-new Batgirl movie for Warner Bros. - called him prior to taking the gig, presumably to get his blessing.
Says Feige:
"He called. A couple months ago, which he didn't have to do and was super cool of him and super nice of him. And we couldn't be more supportive. We want to see a Joss Whedon Batgirl film be awesome."
Reading that, one can't help but be reminded of David Ayer's "Fuck Marvel!" comment at the premiere of Suicide Squad. Kind of refreshing to see someone say something nice about the competition, isn't it? I mean, at the end of the day, all any of us really want are movies that give us our money's worth, but it's easy to forget that, what with all the drama that's surrounded the ongoing DC/Marvel rivalry.
Anyway, good on Feige for taking the high road here. We look forward to the movies his company will release this year, and we're looking forward to Joss Whedon's Batgirl movie. And also Wonder Woman. Aquaman, too. Justice League, you've still got something to prove.
