JOHN WICK 3 Will Dig Even Deeper Into JOHN WICK’s Bizarro Mythology
When I sat down for my first screening of John Wick: Chapter 2 several months ago, I had but two demands: I wanted even more headshots than the original John Wick, and I wanted John Wick: Chapter 2 to give us even more of the weird-ass mythology introduced in the first film.
If you've seen John Wick: Chapter 2, you know that I did not leave disappointed. The film - which remains the action movie to beat in 2017, far as I'm concerned - arrives on Blu-ray in just a few weeks, and in anticipation of that release, our friends at Collider sat down with the film's director, Chad Stahelski, to find out what we can expect from the sequel.
Folks, the news is good. Says Stahelski:
“We want, not so much to go bigger on the third one, but to show you more of the intricacies of the world… I feel like there are all these different subtleties that I skipped over in Number Two, that I’d like to go back to on (chapter three) and show you the inner workings of different parts of New York. So rather than massive set pieces, I’d like to show you cooler and more intricate ones… I think it would be a mistake budget wise and creatively to just go big and blow up a freeway. That’s not our gig. That’s a comic book or a Bond gig. We want to show you cool and intricate details. What are those little details in everyday life? Hopefully – we make people look at garbage collectors and cleaner vans and homeless people a little differently now.”
So, Stahelski (who has not been confirmed to direct John Wick: Chapter 3 at this time, but let's stay tuned for more on that particular announcement) says the next John Wick won't suddenly become one of the latter-day Die Hard sequels. That's good! It also sounds like they're eager to dip even further into the bizarro mythology of John Wick's world. That's even better! If they maintain the level of headshots I have grown accustomed to in the John Wick series, John Wick: Chapter 3 will be a slam-dunk in this household.
