Bad Robot’s OVERLORD (Possibly Another CLOVERFIELD Movie) Arrives Next October

Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. You don't know.

Thanks to the shenanigans Bad Robot pulled during the release of 10 Cloverfield Lane, we now have to wonder if every Bad Robot movie isn't another entry in the Cloverfield franchise. The company's God Particle (a space-based thriller starring David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Daniel Brühl) has long been suspected of being another Cloverfield movie, and we'll find out if that's the case when it arrives in October. Exactly one year later, we'll find out if Overlord's part of the family.

You remember, Overlord - the one with Wyatt Russell and Jovan Adepo? Set during WWII? Oh, look, just have a plot synopsis from THR:

"Wyatt Russell and Jovan Adepo star as American paratroopers dropped into enemy territory. As they approach their target — a Nazi-occupied village with a German radio tower — they realize that they are a part of something bigger than a simple military operation. They then take on supernatural forces as part of a Nazi experiment."

So, The God Particle opens on October 27th of this year, Overlord will arrive on October 26th of next year.

Now, here's a question: are we certain these movies are meant to connect? Isn't it possible this is an anthology franchise? Sure, maybe we'll see some of the same little details pop up from film to film (a Slusho cup here, a Tagruato shout-out there), but this isn't necessarily an ongoing mythology, right? 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg confirmed that his film and Matt Reeves' Cloverfield didn't even exist "on the same timeline", so that's probably the answer.

As per usual, the Mystery Box remains closed for the time being. We're excited to see both of these movies whether they're Cloverfield joints or not, but we can't deny being deeply curious about their possible role within the franchise. Stay tuned for more on both The God Particle and Overlord as further information becomes available.
