Ridley Scott Seems Open To The Idea Of A CGI Ripley In Future ALIEN Movies
As pointed out by the good folks at i09, a new interview finds Alien: Covenant director Sir Ridley Scott saying some, uh, interesting things about how Sigourney Weaver's Ripley may play into future Alien films. Namely:
"We’re heading toward the back end of the first Alien so (using CG) may be feasible. I don’t think it’ll... but Ripley’s going to be somebody’s daughter. Obviously. We’re coming in from the back end. The time constraints, of what’s the time between this film, where we leave David going off heading for that colony, I think you’re probably two films out from even considering her."
Here's the interview itself, if you'd like to hear that straight from the source.
So, the idea that these new Alien films might back up to the original Alien trilogy is not a new one. That's been the goal all along. Bringing Ripley into it - to the extent that she might appear as a CGI creation, and that her parentage might be a plot point - is something else entirely, and a direction we're not so sure we're 100% onboard with. There's connecting your storylines, and then there's overexplaining the shit out of everything and shrinking your universe down to Skywalker levels.
'Course, maybe none of this will come to pass. Maybe Sir Ridley's just kicking ideas around. Maybe he's just bored and felt like triggering a bunch of Alien uber-nerds (it me). Until we've got another Alien movie in the works, it's really neither here nor there (and for the record, I really hope we get to see the third act of David's story).
What do you guys think? Into this, or as skeptical as we are? Sound off below.
