Check Out The Gorgeous D23 BLACK PANTHER Poster

In high-resolution!

Black Panther is probably the most exciting studio property on the horizon, and a big part of that is the film’s Afrofuturist design. We didn’t get any reveals at this past weekend’s D23 Expos – you can expect something at San Diego Comic Con this Saturday! – but we did spot a neat new poster around the convention.

We’re usually only able to get cell phone snaps of floating banners for these sorts of things, but Marvel concept artist Ryan Meinerding has been kind enough to share his pretty vision for Wakanda over on Twitter:

Between the umbrella acacia and the Serengeti at sunset, Meinerding’s piece is definitely meant to evoke AFRICA (as it’s seen in the Western consciousness) before you’ve even had a chance to drink in the details. It’s the kind of mood and setting most of us would associate with Disney’s own Lion King, only instead of anthropomorphized beasts, we’re greeted by the leaders of a technologically advanced, Panther-worshipping culture, with light touching and accentuating the details of their traditional garb.

This is the first time we’ve seen Dora Milaje leader Okoye (Danai Gurira) brandishing a spear, and it’s also our first clear look at the futuristic disc weapons wielded by Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o). And of course, the shadows just make the bone-like designs on T’Challa’s vibranium costume look all the more imposing.

It’s going to be a long seven months of fawning over just how cool this movie looks.
