The BMD Week That Was: THE DARK TOWER, DEATH WISH And Jason Statham
Most days, a whole lot of stuff passes across our front page. Sometimes worthy stories disappear a bit too quickly. For that reason, we’re putting together an overview of how the week went down. From crazy news stories, to editorials we love, to just plain goofy articles that deserve a second look - this is The BMD Week that Was.
Good movie or bad (it’s bad) this week was definitely owned by The Dark Tower here at BMD. Scott Wampler got to go on an impressive trip through King Country which culminated in a special Q&A with the man himself. Scott then watched the film, and along with pretty much everyone else, thought it was a disaster.
Nevertheless, Sony is acting like they’re still going to make a TV show. Director Nikolaj Arcel still thinks it’ll happen, and they even got a showrunner. On top of all that, we have a super cool Great Debate going regarding the film that you can participate in soon. And that’s not all! Inspired by all the Stephen King in the air, the BMD team picked their favorite King adaptations. Ending on a positive note!
In other news, Bond 25 stuff is getting more serious and the Death Wish trailer came out to assure people it would be the worst case scenario they feared.
In addition to The Dark Tower, we had reviews for Indiant sensation Lipstick Under My Burkha, Wind River and The Villainess. Not to mention television reviews from Andrew on Game of Thrones and Phil on Twin Peaks.
But that's not all. Film Crit Hulk went deep on empathy in the era of intersectionalism. Priscilla Page talked about the noir fantasy of Baby Driver. Siddhant shared the story of Dau, surely one of history's most insane film productions. And we got an interview with the legendary Barabara Crampton about her upcoming Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich. And of course, we re-ran Jacob Knight's great look at the career of alpha headbutter Jason Statham.
In addition to that, Broad Cinema looked at the films of Kathryn Bigelow, The Savage Stack got filthy with Vice Squad, Say Something Nice had some kind words for Lockout and Collins' Crypt asked why horror comedies do so poorly at the box office.
