Cate Blanchett Joins Eli Roth’s THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS

Did you folks realize Eli Roth's making an Amblin movie?

We first heard about Eli Roth's The House With A Clock In Its Walls back in June, when the project was announced with Jack Black in the lead. At the time, we were so astounded to lear that Roth would be directing a YA horror adaptation (read: a movie that would presumably not feature all the hallmarks of your average Eli Roth joint), we somehow missed the part about The House With A Clock In Its Walls being an Amblin film. Very interesting!

Also interesting: Cate Blanchett just joined the cast! Take it away, Variety:

"Cate Blanchett is in early talks to co-star with Jack Black in Amblin Entertainment and Mythology Entertainment’s The House With a Clock in Its Walls, an adaptation of the 1973 John Bellairs book illustrated by Edward Gorey. Eli Roth is directing with Eric Kripke penning the script."

Listen, a new Eli Roth project is always worth paying attention to, and - speaking as a dude who grew up reading John Bellairs' work as a gateway to Stephen King - an adaptation of The House With A Clock In Its Walls is worth getting excited about, full stop. But a new Eli Roth film based on a John Bellairs book that also stars Cate Blanchett? The hype train has officially left the station. You're either onboard or you're not.

We're fascinated to see what this movie's going to look like in practice, and can't wait to learn more. Until then, I'll be revisiting some Bellairs in my down time and keeping my fingers crossed that Roth finds a way to translate Edward Gorey's stunning gothic artwork to the screen. That shit rules, hard.

Stay tuned for more on The House With A Clock In Its Walls as it becomes available. Get hyped with us in the comments below.
