BLADE RUNNER 2049 Short Film Tackles Android Prohibition

I've been covering the Blade Runner 2049 beat here at Birth.Movies.Death. for over a year now, and I have a confession to make: despite writing up countless posters, production stills, casting announcements, conflicting rumors, trailers, becoming a Blade Runner and interviewing Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve himself at SDCC, I am still not bored talking about this movie. I've been so impressed with everything we've seen and heard so far, I'd gladly do another six months of this.

Luckily, I don't have to: Blade Runner 2049 will be here in a matter of weeks, and we'll finally get to see what this movie's all about. Until then, the marketing machine rages on ... and today it's brought us something quite interesting.

This, as you already know if you watched the clip and/or listened to Villeneuve's introduction to the clip, is a short film directed by Luke Scott. It's one of three that will be released prior to Blade Runner 2049's arrival in theaters, each of them filling in some of the blanks between the original Blade Runner and this year's sequel. This particular short deals with Jared Leto's Niander Wallace character and the prohibition against synthetics. It's moody and interesting and - y'know what? - I even kind of like what Leto's doing here. I'm sold.
