Lin-Manuel Miranda’s KINGKILLER CHRONICLE Adaptation Picked Up By Showtime
When the creator of Hamilton calls your storytelling "some of the most exciting I've ever read", you can pat yourself on the back.
Patrick Rothfuss' global bestsellerThe Kingkiller Chronicle is coming to Showtime, and the series will be executive produced by Pulitzer Prize winner Lin-Manuel Miranda. The show will follow a pair of wandering performers, as they journey through the upside down world of Temerant, immersing the audience in a unique vision that is both wholly exciting and truly scary.
Adding intrigue into the mix is the fact that the television adaption will be an origin story, set a generation before the events of the Kingkiller trilogy’s first novel, The Name of the Wind. This obviously leaves plenty of room for Miranda and other creative talents brought on board to play and add to the series' already impressive mythos.
Like Sony's failed (but still kicking) Dark Tower series, The Kingkiller Chronicle is a collaborative franchise between Showtime and Lionsgate that includes a television series and a major feature film (along with an interactive game) all being developed simultaneously. The film script is being written by Lindsey Beer (Transformers: The Last Knight), and will be based on The Name of the Wind. Miranda and Rothfuss will be hands on regarding the development of new characters and storylines for the TV show, marking this as a rather ambitious cross-medium endeavor.
As huge fans of Hamilton (just like, well, everyone else on the planet), we here at BMD can't wait to see Miranda's next project. Here's hoping his version of Kingkiller can live up to fans' already high expectations.
