Kevin Spacey To Be Deleted From ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD

In a legitimately shocking turn of events, Deadline revealed tonight that Kevin Spacey (who, as you've surely heard, is in the midst of a full-blown career implosion) would be removed from Sir Ridley Scott's forthcoming All The Money In The World, replaced by Christopher Plummer, and that the film would still somehow meet its December 22nd release date.

While you're processing all that, here's a quote from Deadline's post:

"In a unified front, the cast and crew of the film, and Sony Pictures, unanimously agreed to re-shoot all of Spacey’s scenes, with Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams’ cooperation part of the mix. This comes on the heels of the decision to pull the film from the prestige closing night slot of the AFI Festival."

This is, quite frankly, an unprecedented move, and is only possible thanks to Spacey having only worked for about ten days on the film (lord knows what they would've done had his role been bigger). Ironically enough, reports suggest that Plummer was Scott's first choice to play Spacey's role - that of J. Paul Getty - but that Sony's Tom Rothman insisted on a bigger "name" for the part (who they then covered in elaborate makeup, rendering him unrecognizable, but that's neither here nor there).

Anyway, the limited amount of footage Scott will need to recreate with Plummer, Wahlberg and Williams is a blessing, but still - this movie's just a little over a month away. Why not delay the film by a few months? Why the rush to get All The Money In The World into theaters just in time for it to get steamrolled by Star Wars: The Last Jedi? We have no idea, but assume that Scott is delighted by the challenge, because that's how that madman rolls.
