Trailer For ALTERED CARBON Welcomes The New Flesh

If you ever lamented the fact that the '95 Keanu Reeves version of Johnny Mnemonic kinda sucked (though it'll always have a place in my heart thanks to Keanu's "Room Service!" speech), it looks like Netflix is swooping in to deliver Altered Carbon - a ten-hour series adaptation of Richard Morgan's '02 cyberpunk novel. 

Starring Joel Kinnaman (AMC's The Killing), Carbon takes place in a future that's been transformed by new technology: consciousness can be uploaded; human bodies are commodities; death is no longer final. Takeshi Kovacs (Kinnaman) is the lone survivor of a platoon of elite soldiers who were defeated in an uprising against the latest ruling class. His mind was imprisoned, “on ice”, for centuries until wealthy businessman Laurens Bancroftm (James Purefoy) offers Kovacs the chance to live again. In exchange, Kovacs has to solve his new benefactor's murder, leading him down a rabbit hole of sex, violence and robots.

This looks dope as hell, and another Netflix production that again begs to be seen on the big screen. Those crazy ass visuals are coming to us courtesy of writer/producer Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island), and Emmy-winning director Miguel Sapochnik (the “Battle of the Bastards” Ep. of Game of Thrones). Suicide Squad aside, Kinnaman's a fairly underrated actor, so watching him headline this weirdness should be intriguing (though him playing a character named "Takeshi" has my eyebrows raised a bit). 

Here's hoping Altered Carbon lives up to this tease come February 2nd.
