TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN Will Play In A Theater Near You

I've been debating whether Twin Peaks: The Return is a film or television series for some time now, and a few major publications agree with my stance (definitely a film). But now, if you live in New York City, you'll be able to see all eighteen hours of David Lynch and Mark Frost's magnum opus on the big screen, for free. 

Yes, you read that right. All eighteen hours. For free. The Museum of Modern Art in NYC is programming The Return over the course of three days (Parts 1 through 4 will be screened on January 5th; Parts 5 through 11 will be screened on January 6th; Parts 12 through 18 will be screened on January 7th). It's all coming as a segment in MoMA's "The Contenders" series - an annual celebration of the best films of the year. 

Speaking with Vulture, head curator Rajendra Roy commented on the decision to screen The Return as a film:

“David Lynch’s latest Twin Peaks season is simply unclassifiable: something totally and spectacularly unique. As the Chief Curator of Film, and not Television, at MoMA, I will simply say that my opinion on the matter can be interpreted through the fact that I have invited it to be screened at the Museum. Interpret that how you will, and we hope you will join us in this debate by experiencing this incredible work on the big screen for free this January.”
